    Salamandera Laurel and Hardy

I was thinking after last night about a way of separating them. Now this fella is going on a serious diet!

    Salamandera Laurel and Hardy

Thanks. I had them outside in the garage separated before, but unfortunately I had to bring them in and put them together as it's just gotten so cold. Most of my other animals are also inside now, so it's a question of space. I will watch for missing digits, etc. and if the skinny guys seem...

    Salamandera Laurel and Hardy

I'm sooo excited! I have quintuplet fire salamanders! They are now just over 2 weeks old. I have raised many newt and axolotl larvae, but this is a bit different. No "jumping" for food as I am used to. Actually I don't see them eating at all. One is so fat, I am worried I am overfeeding, one or...

    Compost soil in pond

Guy who made my pond and waterfall, used organic compost for inside the pond and the slope leading to the pond. Sure it's great for plants, but won't this pose health risks for the newts? Thanks.

    Preventing Escape Not Ensuring Death

I was just reading Preventing Escape by Jennifer Macke Caudata Culture Articles - Preventing Escape, a well-written article which gave me the idea that I can use foam around some gaps, but one thing disturbed me, two references to duct tape being used to create a wide rim to prevent escape. Why...

    Illness/Sickness: Severe impaction from chitin

My A. mavortium, Bhima, is bloated, and barely alive now. I foolishly thought I could give him mealworms once a week, and then I left him with a friend for the holidays... I don't know if it's the chitin, if a mealworm is still alive in his stomach, or both. Does anyone know a sally-safe...

    Growing Tubifex in guppie separator

I've bought tubifex from two places. The first sold worms that stank like anything. I don't want to tell you the trouble they brought us (news included, of course). The second were a totally different story. Even after two weeks in cold water they looked and smelled fine. I was wondering, "Could...

    Good filter for partitioned tank

I will be buying a tank and using glass to partition it down the middle into two sections. I've read carefully about the different types of filters. I would like to buy one inexpensive, noise-free filter to use on both sides simultaneously. Could someone please tell me which types of filter...

    I don't believe in Darwin

Has anyone here actually seen this being referred to as Charles Darwin? Greetings everyone. I was born in the US, but now live in the Netherlands. When I was a kid I had a Necturus maculosus which I caught a sewage ditch, a few Taricha torosa torosa or Ichthyosaura alpestris (not sure which) an...

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
