    Pictures of sick axolotls?

Hi everyone, I've decided to add a page on my website describing common axolotl illnesses. My main goal is to educate people about proper axolotl husbandry, and the importance of proper aquarium cycling. It would help me a lot if I had pictures to accompany the description of each health issue...

    I need a backup staple

I have two issues with earthworms: one of my axolotls doesn’t like them much, so he never eats quite enough, and I have a hard time sourcing them at this time of year - fishing season is over, ice fishing hasn’t started yet, and online stores don’t want to ship due to the weather. I’ve been...

How often do babies need to eat?

There are lots of detailed articles on what to feed baby lotls, but they always seem to skip over that point. Obviously it doesn’t matter for things like daphnia that can just live in the tank, but let’s say I’m starting with baby brine. How often do I feed the little ones?

    Thinking of branching out

I've had axolotls for a while now, but I'm really more of a fish person and don't know much about non-aquatic species. I'm starting to think it would be fun to get a pet who spends some time in the water and some time on land. What species would you recommend for a beginner such as myself? I...

    How to treat camallanus worms

Since there is very little info about this online, I thought I'd share my method for treating camallanus in axolotls (and fish, scaleless fish and inverts). I decided to use levamisole HCl after finding an academic paper in which they used it to treat camallanus in frogs. Using this method...

    Camallanus in my axolotl tanks

My two axolotls are housed separately, and both of their tanks have guppies. (Yes, the axies do snack on them once in a while, and yes, I'm very much regretting not getting them their own tank at the moment.) The guppies in one of my tanks have camallanus worms, which means the other tank is...

    I'm the worst axolotl mom!

I dropped my baby (T^T) Context: I'm usually pretty good at keeping the water cold, but there was one day last week where it got to 24 °C. Katla had a fungus by the time I got home, and I switched on the AC and started giving her salt baths. The fungus fell off quickly, but I've been keeping up...

What do you consider a safe GH range?

I raise a lot of different aquatic species, and I keep a list of safe parameters for each of them. I like to feed that data into Excel so that it will alert me whenever my tanks are reaching unsafe parameters. This probably sounds over-the-top, but it's a big time saver for me - I have a lot of...

New to axolotls - how do they look?

Hi guys! First post. I'm a fish breeder, but I recently adopted these two axolotls. I've been a little concerned for their health since they came with feeder goldfish and that's all their previous owner fed them. I just expect feeders to be crawling with disease. My wild-type female has...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
