    Sand for Axolotl

So I've done lots of digging, and I'm still pretty nervous. Does anyone have any brands they know of that have safe sand for an axolotl? I would hate to put something in Dollar's tank that would hurt him. Thanks in advance, Tjebb

    Recommended Filter for Axolotl

So I am getting my boy a 30 gallon tank soon, and I was wondering, does anyone have a specific brand they recommend? I've done some of my own research, but I want to know from everyone else's experience with which filter they prefer. I'm looking for something $100 or less. If anyone has any...

Question: Looking in to getting shrimp for my axolotl

I am looking in to getting little shrimp to live, and get eaten, by my axolotl. Would I have to feed the shrimp? Or would they just live off of the plants in the tank. Anyone with experience, please let me know!

Help! Axolotl not eating, doing a "throwing up" motion

So I have had Dollar for about a year and a half now. He is usually in good condition, other than a few ammonia jumps that happened in the earlier years. He hasn't eaten in a about two days, and he keeps trying to "throw up." I keep moss balls in the tank, and I am worried he decided to eat one...

    Fluttering Gills A Lot

So I had just moved my axolotl into his new tank, well cycled and everything. At first he was super still and nervous, then he would do small movements, but he still isn't moving much. Please note he has only been in the tank for around 30 minutes, so I figure he is adjusting. His gills are...

    Potential Gill Issue

So my axolotl, Dollar, typically has really long gills. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/687432330602029983/ But I got home today, and in less then 15 hours they now look like this: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/687432330602030037/ Is there anything I can do to fix this, or is it normal? And...

    Ammonia Problem: Help

I apologize, as I know there are so many ammonia threads, but I want to get all of my parameters out there. So I have had this tank cycling for about 5 months. Yes, a long time. So I have been using SeaChem Prime daily, and using tests about once a week to see if it is ready. Here is some...

    Question: Safe to add axolotl?

Hey there! I have an axolotl who has been living in a tub for a short run, and I have had a 10 gallon cycling. Please note, he is still a juvenile, and if I notice he is growing to big for the tank, I will increase the size. I am humane. Here are the details: Tank: L 20" W 10" H 10" (This is...

Question: Food Farm Thingy? (I don't know what they are called)

Is it possible to give my axolotl feeder fish and have them breed and he eats them as they produce? So like a farm thingy? What could I "farm" for him? What do you guys do? And can they be in the same tank or no? My wording is kinda off, I am sorry. Also, what do you guys recommend to feed...

Help? I don’t know if this is normal or not.

So, my axolotl, Dollar, has a transparent under body. Like, you can see his organs almost clearly. Is that okay? As he has grown up, he has lost color and gained that transparency. His back side is almost all black, with a few colored spots. He is about 2.5 inches long, give or take. Dollar...

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
