    Communication by tail fanning?

Yesterday my female Paramesotriton chinensis were fighting, in one moment the "holding" female started fanning her tail (definetely not in a way newts use to just turn themselves around) and it reminded me about several mentions i've read throughout the years about communication between...

    Świętokrzyskie Mountains - Poland

This weekend we went to a short trip (short in lasting, long in travelling to the place...) to Świętokrzyskie - in direct translation it should sound like "Holy Cross' Mountains", which are in my opinion not really a mountain range as their highest peak is only 600 metres above sea level...

    Triturus carnifex update

Few pics of my italian cresteds. They're not even a year from hatching and the female has been laying fertile eggs for like 2 weeks already. I really love this species! The male is the same one which pics i uploaded in January, but after a tank-reset the newts got a lighter substrate and became...

    T. carnifex and H. cyanurus

Hey, here are the pics of CB juveniles of these two species in my newtroom. They aren't bred by myself, but i hope to breed them when they mature :) Hypselotriton cyanurus: Triturus carnifex (some of them got lighter because of the substrate):

    Sheen-less C.e.e ?

In October i obtained a pair of (at least i was told so) adult Cynops ensicauda ensicauda. As my previous pair is probably siblings, i didn't want to breed them together again, so i mixed the 4 newts: my male and new female my female and the new male Each pair lives in separate planted...

My friend's tiger sal terrarium and inhabitants

My buddy, who doesn't know English asked me to post pictures of his tank and tigers on this forum, so here are the photos: And "winter" version: And inhabitants (sadly, no certain info about what species or subspecies they might be - every tiger here in Poland is sold under the name of...

    You were right

Cynops ensicauda and C. orientalis REALLY shouldn't be in one genus... it's like comparing Lissotriton to Triturus! Here are the males (ensicauda 12 cm, orientalis 6,5 cm): I have more photos (i made a session in photo aquarium - i don't keep those species together) but i can't upload more...

    C. e. e color changing with age?

Have any of you spotted a change like this? I don't think it's any sort of disease, as the newt is thriving as usual. That's the same male from my tail-sheen thread-series. On older pics here you can see how he did look before. Now i noticed new patches of yellow on his head and sides, which...

    New video!

I was fascinated by pete's Dicamptodon movie and Mark's "Infrared newts" so i finally created my own compilation movie about my (mostly) newts. Enjoy! YouTube - Life in my aquarium

    This year's breeding success

First, i wanted to give big thanks to Joost, huug, Greatwtehunter and some other people for invaluable advice. This year i managed to breed my young Cynops ensicauda ensicauda pair, it was the pair's first time, so i finished up with 11 good eggs from about 25 laid (the other eggs were...

    Cryptozoology

I'm starting this thread just out of curiosity, if some of you believe in bigfoots, african dinosaurs, chupacabras and the rest. For some people it may sound obvious, but for example, year ago i got amazed seeing on polish exotics forum, how many people were creationists - till that day i was...

    T. verrucosus or T. shanjing...?

As some of you remember, in catfish_dude's thread i posted photos from Wrocław/Breslau Zoo in Poland, where "some" Tylototritons have been bred. I'm pretty sure that they're verrucosus, but people from zoo think they're shanjing, and under this name they sale the offsprings to keepers. I...

    Injured Andrias davidianus!

I have 50 gallon tank where i keep together group of Lissotriton italicus and subadult Andrias davidianus. For several weeks everything was going ok, but today i found the giant salamander with lots of wounds obviously provided by Italian newts, after two days during which it wasn't leaving...

    My Pachytriton labiatus

I was making a photo session of my P. labiatus. You have there a comparison picture with 15 cm Cynops ensicauda ensicauda and zoom on tail... Am i right in thinking the white area will be a white spot like tail sheen? Here looks like a Calotriton for me :D Comparison in fototank before...

Cynops ensicauda ensicauda - male's story

I want to post you my pictures showing how the tail sheen was developing for the first time in my male Cynops ensicauda ensicauda, and at start, entire story how the newt was growing - i got him as a 4,5 cm juvenile - now he's approximately 12 cm long. Ok - we start in August 2008. Nitager and...

    Couple of shots

I was uploading pictures from my camera... Nothing special is happening in my hold now. I was tired of hand-feeding those stubborn orientalis morphs, only few of them left so i put them in small overgrown planted terrarium, which is full of springtails, i don't know if they survive... for now...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
