Hi, I have a hatchie that was born in the last 2 days that seems to have either air or fluid in its stomach. What is this? how can i combat it or does my little hatchie have to be euthanised. At present i have moved it to its own little area with plenty of young daphnia swimming around.

Anyone know whats happening to it?

I am also sure i have a wild type hatchie from a melanoid father and luesistic mother is this possible? or is this hatchie melaniod also.

its a brownish yellow and you can see the white around its eyes where as on all the rest of my melanoids the eyes are black and the body is a gray colour.

Thanks for all your help

Dan

hi,
i would just leave it in a shallowcontainer for now with maybe a little bit of plant to rest on.
it isnt unusual for larva to get air bubbles and they normally sort there selves out without to much trouble.
as for colouration anything is possible, it depends on what the parents parents were ect.
i had 3 melanoids from a wild and golden, time will tell.

unfortunetly, the hatchie died while i was out :( i guess you win some you lose some. thanks for your advice though.

That you do.

As for coloration, a melanoid (D/?, A/?, m/m) and a leucistic (d/d, A/?, M/?) can definitely give you wildtype offspring (D/d, A/?, M/m). Then, depending on if both parents are recessive for albino, and the melanoid is recessive for leucistic, and the leucistic is recessive for melanoid, you can get a whole slew of things.

ah i think i understand, ive just found the genetics section on the axolotl page :D thanks
