I recently got 1 axolotl and now have 4, I was not prepared for 4 of them, but it happend..... they currently range from about 1.5in to 4in. (keeping them well fed so they don't eat each other)

My current tank is a long 20 Gal with 2 air pump filters.

Now my question is how long can they all be in the same tank?

We should be selling out house in July, and in attempt to keep the house as clutter-less as possible. I do not plan on getting another tank until we are in a new place, at the soonest.

What are things I can do to keep them happy?

Will more water changes need to happen? currently I do one once a week about 75%, i also have a Fluval vacuum siphon I use daily. It filters the existing crud out and pumps back the same water. all parameters are good.

If all else fails I plan on getting another 20gal long and getting shelving that can support the 400+lbs needed.

For how often you need to do water changes, your water tests are going to be the best answer. If you have no ammonia/nitrites between water changes, that is great! What are the nitrates then before you do the water change? If the nitrates are higher than 40ppm (although 20ppm is the ideal), you should be doing more frequent water changes.

I would give them lots of hiding places, caves (or PVC with no sharp edges) and plants.

For the size difference, you may want to consider getting a tank divider. Multiple feedings per day will increase the amount of waste being produced fouling your water faster. If you are able to separate the smaller ones, then you may be able to cut back on feedings.

Thank you, the big one gets worms and pellets, I feed him first. Then I use a baster to ensure the smaller ones are eating.

Since baster feeding is kinda time consuming I can only feed them once a day on the week days. I've been feeding them a combo of brine shrimp and blood worms. and sometimes they eat the pellet chunks when they are small enough.

I just did a water change last night, so I will check the water when I get home. My nitrates have always been low. the PH looks high but from what I read it is a normal number. 6 I think?

And I think i'll look into getting them some pipes. they have lots of plants. but no caves.
