A bite of axie or tail and fin rot?

I woke up the other day and my axie was fine and then all of a sudden... I came home from work that night and my axies tale had a "v" taken out of it... i've not seen any of the other critters try nibbling or anything... but... that's not to say that they haven't... what do you think?

that definitely sounds like a tail nibble. My axies have bits out of their tails from where they were bitten/mistaken for food by siblings! My sisters 5, I am looking after, (2 inch size) husband forgot to feed yesterday and he found the smallest one having a go at one of the larger one's tails and shaking the hell out of it! There's a definite v and fungus infection just starting so am saltbathing and have put in the fridge.

Also, curious like Charles, what tank companions do you have? If fish, I would suggest separating your axie from them, another tank, if other axies then they may be hungry and mistook tail for food.

my axalotl is not eating and is getting very skinny and PAST DIETS?=about 45 feederfish ,container of mealworms(heads on),1 medium comet,2 ghost tigers,1suckerfish,5earthworms,.ALL IN 1ST 8 WEEKS he got huge really fat & happy looking.THENwnt on a diet of pellet 4 about 3 mnths then we moved house put him in a smaller tank same set up as bigger tank with filter and bubley thing for air. 1st night he was floating at surface &couldnt swim down untill the next day.hasnt eaten since ,i put 3 gost tigers in 4 him but he couldnt catch them, I even put one infront of his face ,he took it chewed it up and spat it out ,its been like this about 4 weeks also the other 2 fish have nibbled a patch off his back and a small case of white funges i know this is alot but hes a battler and is mendable but im no sure how.

Chaney don't mean to be rude but it would be better if you started your own thread so that people can answer/help you direct otherwise they will just think you're replying to this thread topic.

Meanwhile remove your axie from the tank and keep him separated from fish (unless you want your axie to get more stressed and sick) in a tub/bucket of dechlorinated water. Fish have parasites; also produce heaps of waste in tank and as you know nibble/suck/nip an axolotl.

Do saltbaths twice daily for the fungus; 2-3 teaspoons of salt (uniodised table salt or tonic/aquarium salt) per litre of dechlorinated water. No more than 10-15 minutes as any longer and it can burn the gills/skin. Baths shud be continued until a few days after the fungus clears up. Apart from dechlorinater/water ager do not add any chemicals/medicines to your axolotl tank/container as this can cause more harm than good. Most fish medicines are toxic to an axolotl.
