I had a question about using water clarifier. I just bought some aquarium substrate. I am using sand. It came with bio-magnet clarifier. The bag recommended that I use it. Is it safe to use or will it harm my axolotyl Rocky. I have a 20 gal. Tank. I don't want to make any mistakes and end up harming him. Also can I use water starter to speed up the cycling process. Thank you. This is my first time owning and axolotyl and don't want to shorten his life. Thanks again.

No. Do not add anything to the tank you don't need to.

Did you cycle the tank? Did you wash the sand?

Perhaps you should spend some time reading the Axolotl site and CaudataCulture....

I did not cycle my tank. My axolotyl is currently in a spar tank. I did wash the sand. Took me about 3 hrs to wash it all. I read that it was OK to cycle the tank with him in it. Is this not true.

You can cycle with an axolotl, but you need to be REALLY diligent about your water quality.

I wouldn't add the water clarifier just because it's not something you need to do and fish friendly doesn't mean axolotl friendly. If you get some filter floss it will clear up your water well because it picks up a lot of little particles in the water.
