Hello! I currently have a 40gal breeder cycling, and I have two juvenile axies reserved for me that will be arriving at the same time. My question is this: if I wanted to add another, would that be too much bioload for the new cycle to keep up with? What're the opinions of 3 adult axolotls in a 40gal breeder? I know that I would like to end up with three in this specific 40gal tank, however if I wait too long between purchasing the third one I know there will be a size difference issue...

Adding Axolotls to Newly Cycled Tank

I'm really new to the axolotls but from what I've read you need 20 gallons for the first and 10 gallons for each additional. So theoretically I would think 3 would be ok, but no more than 3.
I have a 55 and I'm topped out at 4.

That is the rule of thumb that I have heard as well. I'm also relatively new, aha. Maybe an older member can confirm this for us? What I'm mainly concerned about is the bioload increase from 0 axolotls to 3 axolotls being too much for a newly cycled tank.

Once a cycle is established it should adjust to different bioloads quite quickly. You'll need to test daily and change water accordingly, but it shouldn't take too long.
