My parents bought me a axolotl to occupy my qurantine tank for my fish. It's only 21 litres but he's small at the moment and I'm having him a custom one built that's 62x22x32cm. (there's no fish in there but it's cycled) I immediatly performed a 90% water change on the tank and cooled it to 18 degrees celcius. I floated him in the bag on the surface for 30 mins to make sure he was climatised then released him. I was watching him for awhile when I noticed his gills are basically stumps and his tail is really badly torn up. I later found out he was in a show tank with eight axolotls that were about twice his size. Do I need to intervine with his healing?, will he grow back his gills and will his tail go back to normal?
I feed him "Novolotl" pellets, and remove the ones he doesn't eat, I also feed him earthworms from my worm farm specifically used for my fish. Does he need bloodworms or can I give them as a treat as they are really quite expensive. Will he eat whiteworms?
Sorry about all the text just want the best for him. He's been in the tank for two weeks and he eats normally etc.
He's called Grimes because he is brown/black. Wild type I think, not really sure. He was sold to my parents as a male. Heres a picture of his tank and him.
Thanks,
Carli
