I suppose I should firstly say there is nothing actually wrong with Albi, but I just wanted to know if I should discourage any of his strange behaviours.

He has a stick on log&plant near the top of the tank because he swims about almost non-stop, he loves his ledge, and I have pointed the flow of the filter at it because he LOVES sitting in the stream (he clings to the sponge and sticks his nose in the outlet). Anyway, Albi's absolute FAVOURITE is when the water level drops so that when he sits on the ledge his top half is out of the water. He's sitting on there now looking very content, and quite shark-like.

His face is fully underneath, he isn't trying to get OUT of the water, he just loves being close to the top, and spends a lot more time there when the water level drops down.

Is this something I should actively avoid him being able to do - will he 'dry out' or damage his skin by sitting like this?

He's totally healthy - I can't see any problems with his skin, but am just curious if anyone has had an axolotl do this before and if I should make sure he can't stick out of the top!

Hi,

sometimes my axies are doing this too. I think, they like the falling down water running over their skin. It´s like a massage. ;)
They like to sit on airstones too.

Tina

I don't think it's wierd or anything. Pinky likes to do this too. I think it just feels natural for them to be near the surface.

Embers chooses to hang out on the spray bar in the flow and spends most the time at the top of the tank. Oh and culling the elodea! It's not I don't feed them enough, she must have a taste for it, strange girl!

Mine have all destroyed their elodea, including the littler ones! fiends!

Sounds like Albi has found his "happy" place. Im sure if was causing any harm he'd stop doing it if he's otherwise content. I just love Axies quirky little personalities  You've actually given me an idea to put something similar in my tank. Where did you get the stick on log from?

Lawl @ happy place!

Heres a link to the stick-on Happy Place - best tenner i spent on the tank, not sure if they'd ship to over there, but that online store is absolutely brilliant.

Well, as long as I don't have to worry about his skin, I'll leave him be, he does look stupidly content

The suction logs look great! Might have to get one of those. Do they hold well?

Ooh damn you Mewsie!! That would be a brilliant addition to my 2ft and to my planned 4ft! I have allocated £100 though on them... Although I think it will exceed that seeing as I need a new filter and the centre piece I have my eye on is £47.50!!

Soweeeeee Star ^_^

And yes, they are brilliant, and the axies love them! Quite funny to see them dive-rolling off them! The plants from that place are the healthiest, nicest plants I've had so far. Very good service too.

They aren't huge - just long enough for an adult axie to lounge on all day ;)

I dont think theres going to be anything wrong with his skin or anything, i think hes just a complete weirdo like most of our axolotls:)

Mine bites her own tail even though i feed her more than enough and ends up damaging her tail and causes blood looking things on there but it all heals after shes stopped trying to eat herself :) x

Awwww they don't deliver here :(

Google.... here I come.. hee hee

Ooo, a couple of those would look awesome in my new tank, thank you! :D

When my axie's air stone was in a place he could reach, he would constantly hang his *ahem* cloaca on the air stone! His butt would be waving about bouncing in the bubbles! I swear he had a stupid happy grin on his face about it too....:nono:

I got a couple of those stick on soap dishes that I've put up the top of the tank that Scylla absolutely loves to sit on, she pokes her nose out of the water so with another 4ft tank hopefully coming in soon (where to put it?!) I think I make destroy my beautifully set up 2ft tank (I am officially in love with it) and buy a couple of those logs for her and have one natural looking tank and one quirky tank :) although, she does love her strawberry.... that's natural, right? :p

I caught Hoshi looking like he was climbing through the stick on floating plants and making a run for it! I never thought it could be something to worry about though so I'm glad you made this thread.

I think I'm a stick on log convert as well now! Though I'm just trying to think about how many bacon sandwiches I have to make my boyfriend before I hint towards him getting the girls one as a present! :p

You should be thinking about this from another angle...

How many bacon sandwiches should he have to make YOU so that he DOESN'T have to get them a present?

Then give up bacon.

'til presents are purchased.

OH! Harro.

You all need Happy Places nao.

Love the log  I think my pinky would like it, she is always swimming about the tank

She also loves the air bubbles she loves swimming and riding on them ;)

That is magic! I definitely need a happy place or two. And possibly an oversized human one. He looks so content!
