Anchor Worm

HI!, i saw that my axolotl had some like transparent white things on top of his head (2 to be exact), so i grabed him and cheked it out i pulled them out, i went to a fish shop and they told me to remove all of them because it can really harm fish.( they know nothing about salamanders), im worried i took like 10 off my axie i was wondering how he got them ?? and what can i do to prevent this... in my country is hard to find any food for salamanders and in my city the only live food i can get is tubifex,brine shrimp,daphnia,crickets,cockroaches and some worms that are like 5-6cms .... what can i feed them?

If it is anchor worm, it will have come from something living you added to your tank without proper quarantine (at least four weeks). A plant. A feeder fish. Not sure about shrimp. The problem with anchor worm is that they burrow deep down into the muscles and organs, doing a lot of damage and sometimes causing a lot of blood loss when they are pulled out. There is also a danger of not getting the whole worm out, causing infection. There is a link on this site about anchor worms but get some expert advice. Good luck.

Five or six centimetre worms should be fine for your axie. If they are too big (which is unlikely - most axies will happily wrestle with a pretty big worm) cut them into pieces with sharp scissors.

the problem i have is that there is no specialists in my area :S..... but yea im going to give them other types of food. thanks
