This is about the coolest picture I've seen in a while

The caption in German beneath it says "Rare red color anomaly on an animal market in Hong Kong" (that's according to AltaVista's Babel Fish Translation service) .

erythrism = a condition marked by exceptional prevalence of red pigmentation (as in skin or hair)

LOL, it does look like a big slab of raw beef...

Steak anyone?

Well, since it was found at a (food?) market in Hong Kong, and giant sals are eaten there, maybe it DID end up as a slab of meat. If so, what a waste

I would love to have seen it as a 1.7-meter adult! Who knows though, maybe it is in a zoo somewhere. I did a search but failed to find anything. Perhaps somebody can track down this Zimmerman fellow who took the pic and ask him

I saw another pic today of a pair of reddish Andrias davidianus, one more so than the other. It's hard to tell whether they are actually like that or whether it has something to do with the way the photo was taken or edited.

This is from a Chinese-language book, which I'll credit later when I get the proper title and other info.

The pic is from the book Wildlife in Yunnan.

Here is a real but "plasticized" albino A. davidianus specimen:
