I thought I should introduce myself as is customary on any forum.

My name is Mike and I'm from Toronto, Canada. I haven't kept amphibians in 20 years but today I picked up some firebellies. It took a long time to find them which was weird. Anyway, I've kept eastern green newts, firebellies, California newts and various little frogs (never darts). I consider myself new to keeping amphibians so I don't really know latin names yet.

I don't really understand how I was able to buy eastern newts when I was a kid since they are native, but I would love to keep them again.

I also keep geckos :D

Thanks for having me.

hi mke welcome to the site,
im sure you will find plenty of interesting info on here,
have fun reading

Hi Mike,

In most places, rules against selling native species are fairly recent. So I'm not surprised you were able to buy eastern newts 20 years ago. Even if they cannot be sold now, it may still be legal for you to keep some that you catch yourself - in the US the rules vary from state to state.

Welcome aboard!

I know this is not an amphibian, but since you mentioned geckos...my geckos use a wheel!
They go really slow, though.
I wonder if salamanders would use one too...

Welcome Mike!

Dawn- Thats pretty sweet! I used to have a gecko, he was quite lazy though, I think he could have used one of those too.

Not only does the gecko use its wheel , its also a secret druid !

Ha ha, you caught that! I hung those there on purpose. My geckos think they are very wise, being the resident Geckos of Stonehenge. On the sides of the tank (not visible in the photo) are pictures of the Geico gecko that I keep getting in the mail...I cut them out and hang them like he's their hero or something. I keep Fuzzy with a leopard gecko named Fluffy, who also uses the wheel, and here she is. (I no longer use that substrate, it discolored her belly. I use a towel for them.)
