Ive had a female axolotl for almost 10 years. I got her at the same size as then, only now she is thinner and toes on her front legs are gone.
The other owner I bought her from, had her for over 5 years according to himself, and he got her as an adult.

Now I really would like to put a official age on my girl named "Bumsan". Is it possible? Would be so rewarding.

Her eyes turned kind of white several years ago for some reason. And nowadays, I need to feed her really small portions of anything, because
food gets stuck in her throat. And she is hard to feed pellets..she only want worms: )

She often lays on top of the plastic plants in my aquarium, just beneath the surface. And when speaking to her, (doing vibrational sounds with my lips etc.), she puts her head above the water and just "looks". Could be freaky sure, but never to me: ) I then gently blows air on her and introducing her to another element: )

She gave birth once. And that was only weeks after I bought a male salamander. However the offsprings often took bites at each other and at anything else moving.
That wasnt a problem for any of the other axolotls. But she never grew any new limbs on her front feet.

Dosent Guiness World Records assist economally sometimes? Ask them if they would consider DNA test or something?
Surely its possible to scientifically date all sorts of animals that are living right?
Became more of an axlotl-biography now..well well.

I let her go earlier this evening with help of clove oil. She has been a small gentle friend to me. I got Bumsan as adult. And the owner before me bought her as an adult as well through a private owner. Picky with food. Worm was always the choise. But I could give her a worm that didnt smell right / or whatever, and the little lady would skip the meal while one of her offsprings happily ate the worm instead. Rest in Peace my dear friend. I will always Love you Bumsan.

Hey....
it’s really difficult to determine the exact age of an axolotl, especially since you got her as an adult and they can live quite a long time. The changes you’re describing, like the whiteness in her eyes and her having trouble eating, might just be signs of her getting older.

Hello, I’m looking for fire bellied newts that will ship to Ontario, Canada. Are there any captive breeders here? I’ve had many in the past and I’m looking to get a pair for my 12 yr old. I will be the care taker!

Hello. I’m looking for some input. My axolotl is about 7 months old. I came home and her gills are completely white. I was reading that they do shed around this age. Could this be why her gills are white? The ph is 6.5-7. Nitrates are 80 Nitrites 0.5

My axolotl’s gills have turned completely white. she is about 7 months old. I fed her a couple of pellets to see if she would eat. One hit her head and she flipped out. Started darting all around the tank. Temp, ammonia, nitrates are all in range. Anyone know why this is happening? I pu
