Hi, I've just found a really nice garden ornament which I intend to use in one of my tanks. The ornament is made from "a frost-proof composite which is reconstituted stone" apparently.
I'm planning to seal it so that I can use it safely in my future axolotl tank. (It's brand-new, by the way)
Naturally, I've done a search on the best stuff with which to seal it, but by way of double-checking, I'd appreciate any feedback concerning it's suitability.
As far as I can gather, a water and polyurethane-based sealant with low VOC content is the thing to go for.
I've a tin of satin Floor varnish, which ticks the water/urethane box and the low VOC box also.
I plan to eventually silicone the ornament in place, (once it has fully cured, then sat in a bucket of water for a while, first)
So, just to double-check, is there anything more I should consider before I get started with it?
Thanks, as always, KW
