my tank has been great until i got new filter (otherone died) i let it run with the other one for a week and then took the old one out to days ago along with sand change. i didnt change water when it settled down did water tests all read fine, put isaac in few hours later his lovely fluffy gills where all sticking together and shrinking, so i took him out did water test again read fine put him back in fed him woke this morning to him vomiting his food up so he is now back in hospital tank in window at 10c and some stress coat. he is still reaching, i found a very sharpe piece of flint and large bit of gravel i have had him for about 2months, his gills seem to have picked up a bit but he not eating there is no fungus, but really isnt him self i can put my hand in tank without him trying to take it off. very worried not sure there is anything else i can do but any advise would be great,

Sincw your paremeters were fine, maybe could be a chemical that was in the filter? Or something got in the tank somehow?

to me that sounds like high ammonia or nitrate, but since you checked that its obviously not. what type of filter is the new one? and is your tank well airated?.

Is the flow rate of the new filter faster? Any water current in the tank?

you say hes vomiting up FLINT!!?? as in the sharp stuff people make fire with? sounds like ammonia to me also, is your kit new?

youve done the right thing by lowering the temp etc, keep the tank cool and airated and he should be ok. offer him food every 2-3 days like normal and see if he takes it. keep an eye on the gravel pooping too!! sorry i couldnt be of more help

filter - i have a spray bar across tank.
test kit - this is the second kit i have brought as i had strips this is a tube and dropplet kit.please can a recomended test kit be listed that isnt going to break the bank and that is availible in england. there were quite afew bits in his tank this morning i think it was gill, and remains of the worms. his lower gills are quite red (can only just see as he is black)
by flint i meant slate (sorry) but this is not from my tank.
