Question: Axie coming up for air?

Hi all, I was given an axolotl by someone who couldn't look after them anymore and I've noticed some odd behaviour. About once a day or once every two days he'll swim quickly to the top of the tank, take a breath and swim back to the bottom? His previous owner said he used to do that all the time; is this behaviour anything to be concerned about? He does this really super quick, up to the top, tiny splash, then back down.

I've only had axies for a month, but it seems to be normal! They have lungs, so sometimes they decide to go up for some air. As long as he's not doing it constantly, it's fine.

Oh phew! I was a little worried, only because he was just SO FAST when he did it, but it's good to know he's okay. Thanks for replying!

That's completely normal. Fun fact.. I actually read recently that they actually have four ways of breathing. They are incredibl little guys
