With all the talk of inbreeding and the genetic flaws being produced I just wanted to let the American based breeders know there is something you can do to change this.

There is a facility I have used for several years to DNA map my equine and canine breeding stock to prevent this very problem of genetic flaws.

They have recently opened the door to testing amphibians and if we all contact them to start an Axolotl DNA data base, I am positive they will, if it's not an option already.

DNA testing is not 100% preventive but it will tell you for certain if an animal is carrying defective genes. It will also tell you most color morphs.

I plan on contacting them when I have enough stock to contribute DNA.

You can be a " bury my head in the sand" kind of breeder or you can be one who cares about the future of this critter and uses the current technology to protect them.
