Hi there! I'm really worried. I've an axie, almost 5 years old, and after a moth of leg infections, losing some fingers and some gills bleeding, my Rene had a Cloacal prolapse yesterday.

At the morning everything was normal. He was just floating as usual. When I came back at night, a big prolapse was in the butt area. It was transparent with vessels, and full of air, aparentely. See picture 1

I've started some research on what to do, and decided to put him in the friedge this morning. When I woke up, the prolapse was not as full as yesterday, and had some kind of dense white fluid hanging. I've touched the fluid with a straw to see if was some kind of tissue, and Rene was reacting when I touched it, so thought it was some sensitive tissue....

A couple of hours later, the prolapse collapsed. Now, is like a sagging bag, white. Isn't transparent anymore. And has holes in it.
At the bottom of the tank, there are stains of this white fluid/tissue. See pictures

Now, the tail is kind of curvy, and also the toes are. So he must be in a great pain and stress, I'M ALMOST DESPERATE.
Rene dosn't want to eat. is still floating at the surface gulping air. The tank is fine, clean water and nice air filter, the same he uses since 3 year ago, with all the maintainace checkings done.

I don't know what to do, or what to expect.

Also I think Rene has some kind of infection in the left eye. It looks white, when is ussually pink. He's a white Albino.

If anybody has some comments, or ideas let me know!

This needs IMMEDIATE vet treatment. Had you taken it to the vet when it first prolapsed, the vet may have been able to put the tissue back in. Now that it's ruptured, you'll probably have systemic infections.

There is really no "home remedy" for a prolapse that is as severe as this. Either seek help from a vet, or just keep the animal comfortable (perhaps in a shallow container?) and hope for the best.

Hi guys... tnx so much for your support! Now I'm at work and terrible worried.. I live by myself and there's no one home to callback and check on Ren. I've talked to a couple of vets, and I'll be taking Ren as son as I can out of this office.

When I left home, Ren wasn't floating anymore. He was at the bottom of the tank, gulping some air betweeen 5 to 8 minutes.

Once the prolapse exploted, or I don't know.. collapsed, there wasn't any blood at the tank. That was good. Also he has no blood at the cloacal zone... so, I think this could me a good sign.

I'll keep you guys updated on Ren's case.

Like there's no much info on step by step phases, I'll be taking pictures on any new event, so we all can share this unfortunate experience to help our guys.

Love 2 yo'll buds!

Hi everyone... I'm sorry to let you know that Ren has died tonight.

Ren was in a lot of pain so, I think he's better now.

I'm terrible sad, I hope we can take care of our axies, and I hope we can have Vets that could do something more specific for them. It's really hard when we know more than the vet at the consultation, but, we chose to have this wonderfull beings with us, knowing that in some point it could get hard.

Thanks so much for all your support, and I'll be here always to share the things we went through with Ren to help other owners and loved axies.

I would like to remember Ren on his best days with this picture...

Very sorry to hear about your Rene... Some things in life happen very suddenly and it never has a reason (because life doesn't need a reason I guess) and it leaves us sad... Rene has gone over the rainbow bridge and will be helping us to educate our vets in the future...

Vets here in the South of Ireland haven't even got a clue that such a thing as Axies exist! So I'm dreading the day that something happens to mine...

But my thoughts are with you Romina..

My thoughts are with you.... little Ren looked like a great lil axie! It's a shame there isnt more that can be done for our lil babies!
