I have a quick question about axies, if I have 5 adults in a 40 gallon will they breed??? thx. I am hoping for maybe some babies but I am not to sure if i am up for that yet LOL. I have got a 40 gallon breeder tank for axolotls and was wondering how many axies could I fit in here without there being too much aggression between the little cuties?

Re: Hey guys

I have a quick answer. Yes, yes they will. Often. That is, if you have both sexes in there.
I wouldn't bother moving any, just leave them be and let them do what Axies do best!

Re: Hey guys

Have a really good read of this Axolotls: The Fascinating Mexican Axolotl and the Tiger Salamander :)

Then if there are more questions, if you look towards the top of the page there is green bar, look along there till you spot 'Search' and then add the key words. It will then show you a number of posts that will help you further .

Re: Hey guys

Thanks you guys I will make sure to separate males and females for a while!

Re: Help me!

space wise, length is better than height.

You want to aim for 1 foot per axie minimum then an extra foot for decor ect. i.e if you have 2 axies, you want a 3 foot long tank :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
