Hi guys! This is going to be slightly long, bare with me.
I have an almost year old Axie named toothpick. About a month ago I started transitioning her to earth worms, and she loved them! She had no problem with eating them right up, and never seemed to care about the smell that they release when cut.
flash forward a few weeks, toothpick became very constipated for some reason. I was mixing feedings with either a worm or pellets every other day, having the day in between off or bloodworms for a snack. She always seemed so hungry so I tried to vary the diet to give diff sizes and tastes. Anyways, she was not well for a few days. Barely eating, tail sticking up, bloated etc. I was about to fridge her but then I saw she had pooped, and she began to act normal again.
Ever since this little issue, she will not touch earthworms. Ive tried to give whole (smaller) earthworms, cut up earth worms, I’ve tried to blanch (I think that’s what it’s called) the earth worms before cutting, etc. She won’t take them! She moves her head or swims away. The only food she eats now is pellets, and she loves them. I just sprinkle some in a little dish and a few around the tank for her to search for, and then remove what she doesn’t eat.
I really want to get her on live food though, because I know it’s the most nutritional for them. Do you guys think the earthworms are what bothered her stomach so bad? Does anyone have any ideas on what to do? Should I try a different worm? (I was thinking red wrigglers, but I have heard they cause complications)
She is not underweight at all, in fact probably a little chunky!
also just for background info: Temp 64 F, Ammonia: 0, Nitrite: 0, Nitrate: <40. I use API test kit. Don’t think water perimeters are contributing but just wanted to make sure there was background info
Thanks!
