Axolotl coming up for air?

My axolotl seems to come up for air sometimes but i just changed the tank water and it is a little bit cloudy and she is coming up for air quite a lot.
I was wondering if anyone might know as to why she is doing this.

Hi,
Just checked through your other threads. Cloudy water is usually a sign of bad water.
If you look after the water quality your axie will be fine. I see that your axie currently has fungus starting on his tail.
I recommend that you test your water with a liquid test kit (I use the API kit for freshwater, about £25 online)
You need to know
Ammonia
Nitrite
Nitrate
pH
and check your temperature.
In the meantime,
I think you probably have axie poop trapped in all those big stones. I would either remove the axie into a bare tank in a cool dark place with clean dechlorinated water or strip out the tank and refill with clean water without the stones. I suspect whatever filtering system you have is not keeping up with the amount of waste being produced by your axie. That might be because your cycle is not established yet, and the only way to find out is with the water tests.
Axolotls only need cool clean water, should be easy, shouldn't it!

And one of the effects of ammonia in the water is damage to gills, hence needing to come up to the surface to breathe.

i just cleaned my tank and it isnt cloudy anymore (i can see from one end to the other) and my water has been perfect and before i changed the water there was only a tiny amount of ammonia present (tank was due a clean so i suspected that). Would it be good to have 2 filters just to make sure the job is getting done properly?

What were the actual reading for
Ammonia
Nitrites
Nitrates
Ph
Temperature?

Just because water is clear does not make it "perfect" high levels of toxins are invisible & not likely to affect clarity instantaneously. You must test all the above otherwise you won't know if your tank is actually cycled. If its not cycled then you should be doing daily water changes.

Also those stones create a cleaning nightmare & I'd be removing them urgently so you can get control of your water qualities.
