Hamster balls... for axolotls. This needs to happen. A water-tight plastic ball (probably not possible, but maybe it is...) for axolotls to be able to swim around the room for a few minutes :D

Even though it would be cute, it would probably stress them out a lot, I wouldn't do it unless you could be sure it wasn't stressed

Oh gosh. I'm an engineering student and you have me trying to think of ways to make it. Hamster balls move when the critter moves its center of gravity out of the center of the ball. Unfortunately when the ball is filled with water and with axolotl being so small I don't think there will be enough movement in the center of gravity for it to go anywhere.

You could however have a water+ axolotl ball inside another ball or track that would do the moving. This would keep the axolotl still within its waterball but you could theoretically lead it on a leash.

I could definitely see my axolotls chasing around my dog in that machine:tongue:

As much as it sounds and looks cute, hamster balls are actually dangerous and stressful for hamsters. There's a couple places online about it you can find. I'm not sure a ball for axolotls would be safe in any way either. In that video with the fish the water moves around so much because of the jerky movements, I'm sure an axolotl would not enjoy that swaying. As much as it seems like they are more free to move around, they would still be in a small confined space. I have to say I disagree.

And plus, even though it's temporary, what about water quality? It needs to be safe for axolotls to breathe, say you put it in there 3 times a week (Which you shouldn't, stress) and you put different water each time. Either you take some of your axolotls tank water for that, which would be a lot to begin with, or you use bottled or purified tap water or something. If it poops while you're not watching it, (Which you should) it could get ammonia poisoning. I'd listen to everyone telling you against it, even if it seems like we're crushing your dream. If you could make it to where the water is perfect and doesn't slosh around, and every other variable is perfect, then do it! Otherwise, don't

I wasn't going to do it. It was a joke. lol. I'm not going to pay a bunch of money for an axolotl and then put it in a plastic ball.
