Hi all. I have a 2 yr old male golden axolotl, who I've had basically his whole life. My dumb inexperienced brain thought putting ice and blowing a fan would cool the 30 gallon tank enough in the Texas heat. Anyways, skip to recently, I learned more about axolotls, and decided to by a thermometer to see if the water really was cold enough. And it wasn't (obviously.) The tank was an average of 70 degrees Fahrenheit and sometimes above. I immediately bought a chiller and the tank is now always in the lower 60s. However, 2 years of living in warm water must have affected him somehow. Will it shorten his lifespan? By how much? Or will his health bounce back and he'll live long and happy? Any answers will be very appreciated. Thanks!
Ps. He's never acted very sick when the temps were hot, always swims around, gills red and not curled forward, vibrant colors, and he's only gotten fungus once when I went on vacation and forgot to change his water.
