Illness/Sickness: Axolotl hasn't been eating for 2 weeks

The guy sold me melafix, for a fungal infection should i use it?
he also told me to use it at half dose.
P.s. Aristotlina (the other axolotl) is loving the earthworms and shes looking a lot healthier because of them i think.

I have never really used melafix so I don't have much to say for it. I think someone else here on the forum has used it but not sure for what. It is always at the end your decision but I think in your case you do have to do something.

The only aquarium bought medication I have used was EM erythromycin which is broad spectrum and is the choice of use for the University of California's researchers who raise hundreds of axolotls.

It is a possibility earthworms could carry the parasite. No guarantee. You can try switching suppliers.

thx for the advice
but i was just wondering how long i would have to keep my axie in a sick tub with the medication or if would be at all possible to keep her in the tank with the medication-> because i dont have many containers, and the medication recommends 2.5ml per 40 liters so there would be next to none in the tub.

You can get a sick tub which really is a plastic aquarium that can fill up to 10L. Most pet stores sell these for like 15 bucks. So just use 2.5ml /4 = 0.6 ml for 10L, get a syringe that can handle those small values and then after the stuff is mixed scoop out 5L of the water so your axolotl can be in it. Or I guess 0.3 ml per 5 L.

I am not sure of what melafix's instructions are but you want to do this until you don't see the weird stuff on the axolotl. That can take a week and a half. Then give it a break and see if they still have issues and then carry on again for another week. Also when you use stuff like melafix or em erythromycin, the axie may not be that interested in food. Although in my experience my axies really ate food while on EM erythromycin.

In the meanwhile I would order some indian almond leaves because if you past that two week mark, your axie should be mostly good but in the event there is some minor bacteria floating around you can kill it with the gentler indian almond leaves.

I'm clearing out an old 23 litre tank and putting in 18 litres in
with a dose of 1.14 mls should i put anything in the tank like hides?
and the temprature will be about 23 degrees most of the time , however i will try to regulate
will post picks
does this sound good so far?

Yin seems to be settling in fine
but after looking at her move around i was wondering whether or not it could be her shedding skin
because it is around her neck and gills but when she moves some of it comes off in thin
patches or clumps
ive treated her with 1.2 mls
edit--> ive put a ceramic hollow log for her to sit in inside the tank
any advice as to what to do next?

I actually just found out that the medication is pimafix- by the same guys who did melafix,
im using it in a one third dose, its still all natural ingredients,
and the guy, at the aquarium said that it would I should be using it( the aquarium said that its the only thing that they'ed ever use on their axies)
Some stuff is coming off her, but i cant tell whether its slime of fungus,
P.s. its only coming off where the fungus was.

That's awesome! Hopefully in the week it will be gone! :)

But if you can maybe throw and indian almond leaf into the main tank just incase the stuff is also in the tank.

Yin,my axie, is looking better
however, ive noticed that a lot of the slime coat around her right gill, and around her neck and chin are coming off,
Is this meant to happen?
because these are the areas that the'fungus' was around
no other areas of the body are peeling except for a tiny patch on the tail.
btw, im doing doses less by 1.01ml everyday, and im doing 1 third water changes, daily as well.
she, seems to be less interested in the food, and is less active, she is also seeming to sit around the filter a lot, with the air bubbles coming down and attaching to her, running from her tail to her head, and into the slit in her neck,
this seems to make a lot of the peeling stuff come off and it also comes off when she does some swimming around the tank.
is this normal for medications?
is it just pimafix?
or should i take her out?

Everyone, I regret to inform you
that last night yin passed away.
I would like to thank everyone for their posts and especially hitamansougo for their help
Yin passed away in her normal tank and didn't appear to be stressed, she just laid down and went to sleep.
however, its better to have loved and lost than to have never have loved at all.
btw, the picture is of yin a few months ago.

I'm sorry for your loss. You tried your best. Hopefully you won't have to deal with this again. Focus on little Aristotle!

Thanks bette
i think that Aristotle might actually be a bit lonely now :(

I haven't realized until now, because of shock, panic and sadness,
But is appears as though she broke her arm and gills somehow, and bled out where she died,
as there was a pool of blood,
It appears as though she didn't have any fungus on her when i was burying her,
so it appears as though just after she was cured, an unfortunate accident happened,
cutting her life short....
