Anyone have any good tips for axolotl hides? How big should they be? If I used a broken pot as a hide, would I have to sand the edges first? What are the best axolotl safe hides (preferably ones that won't look ugly in my tank ;) )

I use a flower pot on its side and toby sleeps in it at night and when he's sleepy. :)

You can get fake hollow logs at fish/aquatic stores, they will stock all sorts of hides usually, just avoid anything with sharp edges, inspect them thoroughly. Yes terracotta pots are good, but obviously sand off sharp edges. Any hides should be big enough to contain the Axolotl and to get in and out.

Flower pots (with a door), PVC pipes, driftwood, store-bought ornaments. As long as it's big enough for them to get inside or behind, they'll play with it. My guys love to simply hide behind a piece of driftwood even though they also have a flower pot and a pipe to play in. haha. They also love hanging out on top of plants. They're goofy little gophers.
