Hi guys, I'm new to posting here. A couple years ago (I believe it was 4) my ex decided to buy me axolotls for christmas. The people that sold them to us did not sort them to only keep the best ones. I ended up with 4 axolotls that were missing limbs and I got told they were going to grow back. I lost 3 of the 4 last year because of extreme heat in the summer sadly.. Now I only have one that is missing a whole leg, a paw and the gills are not looking good at all. I'm in a facebook group for axolotls and an admin told me the axolotl I have is a dwarf (20cm) on top of all the issues it already has.
I'm wondering what I should do? I don't know if he's in pain or not. I don't know if I should keep him that way? I really feel bad for the little guy..
Thank you in advance for the help

Has this axolotl been this way for 4 years? The little dwarf one? If you have not done so already, get some indian almond leaves! They release tannins which are good for axolotls and promote regeneration, good gill function, amd are antibacterial and antifungal. I have a 20g low and I can out at least 2 in there but I only use one since they are large. Take a look into that. Is it in pain at all? Girls curled forward or tip of tail curled? Eating? Are you water levels and temp okay?

Yes it has been like that from the start. I just checked and the tail is curled, the tip of it also grew crooked :( yes it eats, water and temp are good too!

Awh little guy! Usually it has to be the very top of the tail curling showing its stressed and or dying rather than the tail curling. Does it show signs of discomfort or difficulty? I'd definitely suggest taking a look into indian almond leaves. When I added them to my tank my male looked so good, bright and never had any sickness. But unfortunately since your lotl seems to have genetic issues just make it as comfortable as you possibly can. I am also on a community on FB, axolotl community. Take a look with them too to get more advice from more experienced people with this sort of topic :)

Well yeah the whole tail is curled too, it doesn't seem to show any discomfort but has trouble moving because of the missing legs.
I bought some indian almond leaves and never got to use them, I just put in 2 since my tank is pretty big, hopefully it helps him! 🤞

Good luck! I hope something works ❤
