I am currently raising some SRN larvae, and finding that they are really sensitive and slow growing. Are axolotls any better, especially in terms of growth rate?

Mostly depends on the temp and food source but here's the difference between larva hatched within the last two days

Larva hatched last week

And a juvenile hatched mid-late September

The temp has been between 60-70F the last few weeks but none of these guys are kept in anything above 70F

I have an old book on laboratory animals which says that, when kept at 18C, Pleurodeles will metamorphose at 4.4-7.2 cm, at 90-110 days old; but axolotls will be about 10cm long at 120 days.

So axolotls should grow quite a bit faster.

Thanks, that's kind of what it seems. It makes a huge difference, because those first larval stages are when they are the most vulnerable and sensitive, so I like them to get out of that asap. Hopefully more experienced (and patient) hobbyists will continue to breed Spanish Ribbed Newts, because they are really cool and becoming more rare in the wild...
