Axolotl Leg Gone

I left my axos for Easter weekend and came back to one lotl without a leg. I guess it was bitten off, but I have no way of knowing for sure. I also don't know when it happened, sometime between now and Friday.

What do I do now?

Well, I would also assume it was bitten off if you weren't there to feed them. They get very nippy when hungry!

Just make sure all your water parameters are perfect, (0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and under 40 ppm nitrate) and your temp is correct, and the little guy should heal on his own. Axolotls are famous for re-growing limbs after they've been lost.

I might also separate them (divide the tank maybe) so they don't nip each other again, but if you keep them fed it shouldn't be a problem.

Should I fridge her? Just in case. That would separate her out.

I would not fridge at this stage. As long as your water quality is good the axolotl should be fine. Do however keep an eye out for any secondary infection such as fungus.

You could place her in a tub of cool dechlorinated water. If you do, do 100% water changes daily.
