Hi, I've had axies for a couple of years now and have read a bit on their metamorphism. I can't seem to find a reliable answer though. I've read that it's cruel to make them do it and I've also read that a substance made up of thyroid gland extract would induce them to begin metamorphism or placing them in a dangerously low level of water? Could I please get answers on all of these whether they are true or not?

thank you =D

Re: Axolotl Metaorphis?

Those things might work, but in most cases, trying to force a morph would kill them. VERY cruel to try it in my opinion. And completely unnecessary. You'd be forcing a massively stressful bodily change on the creature, just for your own curiosity.

If you want a land salamander, buy a land salamander.

And if that was just an innocent comment, I didn't mean to come off too strong. But you won't get any support here if you are considering forcing a morph.

Re: Axolotl Metaorphis?

Trying to force morphing is normally frowned on by Axolotl enthusiasts, me included.
There is a thyroid supplement which I believe they inject into them to promote morphing. As for the other ways i do not believe these have been tried and tested with any success.
It is common knowledge that morphed Axolotls, whether naturally or forced do not live very long lives in comparison to our water restricted friends.
I do agree that if you wish to have a creature that lives on the land you should get a different bspecies of salamander. A morphed axolotl does not differ greatly from a Tiger salamander to look at but the Tiger would live longer as it is a more its natural progression in its life to become a land creature unlike the Axolotl.

After what I had read and seen on youtube, what people were doing whilst trying to get their axololt to morph I'd decided it was quite cruel and I love y axies the way they act and look now =) . The information you gave me was very interesting and helpful, Thank you both for the reply's =)
