Morning all;
So I’m new to Caudata but I’ve kept axolotls before, back when I was an early teenager, and managed to breed them at one point which was exciting.
So I’ve recently purchased two axolotls from an aquatic centre near me (Thursday 31st Aug) and since bringing them home I seem to be encountering problems.
My tank has been cycling for about 3 weeks which was sped up using the ceramics from an existing tank so all my ammonia and nitrite readings are at 0 BUT this heatwave we are currently having seems to be doing a number on my Axies.
On the Friday I noticed they were acting erratic and itching their eyes, which I assumed was a response to the temperature so I’ve been doing ice packs and frozen water bottles to keep it below 20c.
The problem mainly seems to be effecting their eyes (see photos attached). And one of them appears to now have columnaris. I’ve been treating the tank with Pimafix since Friday.
Any suggestions on how to help solve the problems would be much appreciated.
