Hello!
This is my first Axolotl, today I saw both his legs up in the area and his butt very swollen. Since then one side of the swelling has gone down and lots of poop in the tank. The other side is still swollen. I have added pictures of this. Is this from over feeding? Should I be doing something to help? Is there a certain amount of time I wait? I’m assuming he might be constipated but I wasn’t sure.
Also tank specs are normal, last water change was a 25 percent change 3 days ago.

Fridge him immediately. That's what I would do that looks bad constipation. But hopefully someone will add to this or make other suggestion. Just do your research before doing any fridging.

Thank you! So he pooped a lot more and now the swelling is all down. Should I still look into fridge him?

If only feed live food try swapping between live and carnivore pellets. Read it helps keep that from happening.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
