Just a cautionary note to anyone new to keeping axolotls. If you go out and buy a new aquarium that comes with everything you need (lights, pump, filter )etc, check the bulb intensity before you leave the shop. I purchased a whole new system this weekend and didn't think to check the bulb's that came with it. I knew something wasn't right when my two axies emerged from their hidey hole wearing welders masks and sun cream factor 4000:supercool:...shop was happy to replace the bulbs tho and i changed them for natural light flourescents...:proud:....both axies now happy and exploring new home

I can just imagine them wearing masks and suncream....LOL.. just imagine if they had a welder in one hand and were walking on their back legs around their tank.... he he he

What type of tank did you buy? Typically, the lighting that comes with freshwater box set-ups is dreadfully dim.

the tank is a fluval roma 125, one light tube was ok, just a standard aquarium tube but the other was a high intensity marine tube, designed to encourage marine life so it said. Apart from almost blinding the axies it also lit up my lounge, we all woke up with sunburn the next morning , so i changed it for a sun tube. Much more natural and they have been out exploring so I'm sure its fine.
