My axolotl vomitted two times this month and I’ve had my axolotl for a year now. I never had a problem feeding it until recently it seems to have a change in appetite? It doesn’t actively search for its food anymore and I have to use a turkey baster to drop them on top.

I fed it 8 pellets everyday but recently I tried cutting down to 6 pellets every 2 days but it still vomitted.

Water parameters are all good and the temperature is 17C.

Hm, I am very unsure why that would happen. But I would continue to cut down on the pellets. How big is your axolotl? Mine is about a foot long, female, round girl. So I only give her 3 because I had a habit of giving her too many. Do you give your axolotl anything other than pellets?

Mines a bit less than a foot long. Maybe I should cut down on the pellets. I occasionally feed it worms but it mostly eats pellets. Do you give her three everyday?

No, ideally I only give her 3 every other day. Because she has sand, I hand feed them to her, like, I drop them above her and she sucks them in. I feed her a worm some days when I don't feed her pellets. I was horribly overfeeding her before so I scaled it back. I know you want to make sure your axolotl is well fed, healthy, and happy, but try 3 pellets every other day for a bit, see if that improves things.

Question though, what size pellets do you have? Mine are small, like half of a grain of rice. Her back up pellets, which I only got in an emergency when our puppy ate her normal pellets, these back up pellets are huge, like half the size of a dime, I only gave her 2 every other day.

But I am unsure why your axolotl threw up at all. Do you have any photos of them and their tank set up? Maybe there's something in there that would be irritating them. Do you have any sand at the bottom or pebbles?

Heres a size comparison. My tank is bare bottom. I’ll try 3 pellets every other day and see what happens!

Axolotls generally self wean. i.e. cut back on amount they eat and frequency.

Feed pellets one at a time to see where your axo becomes disinterested but offer daily until he/she refuses to eat that in between day.

Remember pellets do swell to a larger size in the stomach so that may be a cause of the regurgitation.
