Axolotl w/ burping problem

I always say only fridge an axolotl in a life or death situation. Fridging can be stressful as it slows their metabolism down. Pretty much heat and if you are waiting to bring it to the vet because they may not live long enough to make it to the appointment due to a bacterial or viral infection.

I'm not quite so strict on fridging. I make sure my fridge isn't too cold and monitor them closely, but I've personally never seen my axolotls become stressed due to fridging. As long as the temp isn't too low, you keep the water clean, and make sure they have plenty of time to slowly adjust back to a normal temperature, I'd personally say it's ok.

I do think there's something to be said for how the individual axolotl responds to it, though.

As above, I keep adult axolotls outside over winter , only moving them into the shed if the ice starts to build up on the tank and becomes a danger to the tank. Some of my guys spent last winter at 5-10 c and they entered the new year in superb condition and the females gravid.

Some good points there Embry and nai live and it does seem in this case being outside in the colder temperatures has assisted this axolotl so there does seem to be value in fridging for this type of case.
