Hello!

Iv'e had my axolotl for about a month now and iv'e posted pictures of him before to gauge his health and was told he looks fairly healthy.

I was noticing brown/ discarded clumps of bloodworm all around the tank and I figured it might just be the way it was coming out after looking around some of the posts it's possible they sometimes extract it this way.

However Iv'e just caught him in the process of wretching it all up.

The odd thing about this is that it's not happening an hour or so after feeding or emmediately. It's usually the next day after feeding between 12-24 hours later that the axolotl is puking up his food. >:

at a loss really. He has a diet of redworm. he will -not- take earthworms regardless of what I try to do to feed them to him. This has Included blanching, cutting trying smaller worms ectect - he'll just having nothing to do with them which is weird.

I was concerned about his weight thinking maybe if he's puking he would be underweight but he seems to be getting nutrients somehow but this has been ongoing and Iv'e tried to get him to eat but he hasn't passed regular poops since I got him.

My tank is sand substrate and the water levels as far as I know are fine. we did have a hiccup where we went away and came back to a lot of food left in the tank but this has been occuring since I first got him where I checked my water perimeters then and they were fine.

I'd hate to think he was sick. But its happening a lot and I'm at a loss >:

Just as a note this is my axolotl set up.

and this is a picture of my axolotl that I took a few weeks ago just joining and originally sought to see if he was underweight or suffering from his regurgitation.

and below are some pictures I took just this minute for comparison. I'm not sure if there are visual signs of deterioration but he looks pretty thin to me but was told - at least two weeks ago that he looks a good weight.

reason i'm reposting now is because I caught him in the act of regurgitating his food so I know for sure he isn't passing it properly. :/ - I'm unsure of how often regurgitation is supposed to happen but I find little messes of partially digested bloodworm everywhere on and off since I had him.
I'm just worried that all this time he hasn't been eating as properly as he should. I know that they fed him bloodworm in the store and apparently was reared mostly on bloodworms as well.

trying to swap him over to earthworms currently without much success but I keep trying.

Hi DiceSan.
I've posted some more info on your other thread. Please post water parameters (ammonia, nitrite nitrate & temp) so we can review your water conditions. This is important.
I would also suggest small amounts of food, so he is not eating a lot in one go. If he is not eating small pieces of earthworm then perhaps try hand feeding some small pieces of fish or prawn (mine love prawn), and monitor very closely what (and how much) is being eaten.
Post everything back here and we can review it all so then we can offer some more specific advice.

Wow he has a large cloaca. He may be constipated. I'm assuming you don't keep rocks in there that are either as big as his head or smaller? How often do you feed him? And in regards to earthworms and him not taking them-- are you absolutely sure they are Nightcrawlers? Where do you get them? Make sure they are NOT red wigglers. Most axolotls will not take them because they taste foul. If they really are Nightcrawlers, you just need to try to keep presenting them to him. You may even need to fast him for two or three days to get him hungry enough to take them. Bloodworms are kinda like potato chips for axolotls-- they taste good, but there's really nothing in there that's gunna be nutritious for them.

heya if he is constipated I don't know what could have caused it there's no small rocks or anything and his rear end has been that large since we got him. so it may have been something that happened before hand but I can't say for sure.

I will try him on some frozen prawns or something and keep trying with the nightcrawlers.
