My axolotls gills used to be fluffy and long. He's around 6.5 inches now. A few months ago they stopped being fluffy. I don't know why or how. I ignored it at first but soon began to realize and was worried. Nothing in the tank had changed at all. I had the same routine for a while. I test the tank, and the levels were correct. I decided to buy an air stone, thinking that would help. but it didn't. He still eats and is active and looks healthy, but his gills have lost their fluff. All help is appreciated.
