Axolotl's Gills aren't looking right

Hi Guys,
My axolotl has just undergone the stress of a in-tank cycle, but now his gills are looking weird. His gills are normal in shape except he doesnt have any of the tiny filaments coming out of his gills. any suggestions?!

I would do a search on here about axolotl gills, they are frequently discussed. I never had an axie myself.
