Axolotl's leg covered in fungus.

Lexie, oh no.You must be so worried! I'm no expert at all, but my axie had fungus for a month, and she was really ill. Salt baths didn't help, but what did help was methylene blue baths. You can get this from your aquarium/petshop. I put her in a bath of mild methylene blue for 30 mins a day, using only 1 tiny drop of Methylene Blue in a 1 gallon bath. She started improving after her second bath, and was well after 4-5 days.
But cos your axies leg is that bad, am not sure if medicine is enough, it may have to be amputated to save her. Hopefully somebody can help you with vets in Brisbane.
Good luck

Thanks! I'm going to go out tomorrow and get some meth blue. Anything's worth a try!

No one know of any vets in Brisbane?

Oh the salt baths are still happening!!

Bought some meth blue yesterday and have been giving him a salt bath in the morning, meth blue bath at midday, and another salt bath in the evening.

I hope this'll work.

I did have a very close look - he stayed still for long enough yesterday - at the leg.

The fungus is about to fall off! Which is great, it's only hanging on by a tiny thread. So after this I'll continue the baths for about a week max to prevent infection and then release him back into the main tank.

Thanks for helping again.

I think he really is going to get better, thanks to this forum helping me out!

YEY!
How's the leg? That fungus can do quite a bit of damage if left long enough. Is the leg ok?

The leg's almost gone. I can see a little stump where it was and the fungus is still hanging on by a small thread.
He is getting better though, fungus is going away!!

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeey!!!
Axolotls limbs grow back tho dont they? so it should be ok ^____^
That axolotl in ur Display Piture. Has it just got really small gills or is a big axolot?

the one in my dp is dead now - i've tried to change the pic but it never worked!!

back on topic though,

i don't know what to do!!
my axie's leg is still only just hanging onbut as i was taking him out of his salt bath this evening my sister said "hey is that blood??" and i looked, and his leg was bleeding! it just kept bleeding! i kept trying to get the blood out of the water and changing the water becuse i didnt want it to be infected! i put him in the spare water (i keep another container of water in the fridge to transfer him into every night as opposed to a water change, so that its the same temp) once he'd stopped bleeding after around 5 minutes...
i put him back in the fridge and checked him 20 minutes later and he was looking ok, so i dont know whathappened... maybe i accidentally touched it getting him out... fungus still hasnt fallen off and the stump where its hanging off is very pink... i can get a pic if necessary??
im just worrying that what im doing now isn't enough... i dont know what to do...

ty in advance!!

I am not a vet but if the dead tissue is finally being sloughed off the live tissue then any scabs on the blood vessels could have be being shed with the dead tissue.

our axolotl may well eat its remains(the leg) if it comes away btw so be be weirded out if you see that lol.

...eww

fortunately that hasn't happened yet! no real progress yet, but nothing bad either. thanks guys

not sure it would be a great idea the other axy eat the remains

They eat their shedded skin too. Don't worry its a natural thing. Basicly its to stop any predators finding out that:
a)There are axies in this pool
&
b)One of them id injured and has no leg.

UPDATE:

The leg is off!!! There is still some fungus on the little stump and it's a little pink, so he's still in the fridge and getting salt baths.
