Due to unavoidable circumstances, we are going to be moving cross country from Oregon to Michigan. It will be a week-long road trip. Flying them to our destination ahead of time is not an option unfortunately.
While I would prefer not to have to give them up for adoption (my oldest has been my buddy for 15 years) I will if I can't make reasonable travel accommodations for them.
We have four adult axolotls. Our furthest move with them previously was 12 hours drive time.
My plan was to do as I did last time: Each in a separate 1.5 gallon bag with a few inches of air at the top, wrapped in a blanket to dampen vibrations, and placed into a cooler atop ice packs in order to maintain their temp around 45-50F. Partial water change with cold aerated water at night when we hit the motel, then in the morning before taking off for the next leg of the trip.
Does anybody else have any experience with moving cross-country with Axolotls? How did they handle it?
Any practical tips to reduce stress on the axolotls or their humans?
Thank you
