I have a 48 inch long tank with lots plants(water sprite.vals.egeria densa)in clay flowerpots. Its a cool water tank.I would like to know if keeping Axolotol in such a set up is poosible or will they destroy the plants? The pots are 5 inches tall and only in the rear wall of tank thus leaving the front open but providing a nice wall of vegetation as a background.

It really depends on how heavy the pots are and how well rooted the plants. Axolotls are strong and clumsy. They don't actively destroy plants so much as knock things over or accidently pull things up when passing through them. My big concern would be wether or not the clay pots are leaching anything nasty into the water.

Thanks,The pots are pure red clay I have tested the water I use them in other tanks to they dont leach anything since not glazed nor treated with chemicals. They might though leach some natural iron which is found in red clay but thats a guess.
