I'm currently raising 50 odd baby axolotls They are 5 weeks old, 4-5 cm long, and in groups of six in shoebox sized containers. Here's the patient:

Did a blood vessel burst or something? Should I consider amputating the limb? What's fascinating is that you can see the outline of the bones in the hand. Any help would be greatly appreciated, no matter how miniscule!

I’m going to suggest you isolate it from the others asap, in case it is an infection / red leg.
I’m sure someone will come along soon and help, this case is outside of my knowledge bank.

Aww, sorry to hear that.
Sometimes they are born with defects that cause them to die, or maybe this one was weaker and susceptible to an infection. Hopefully the rest remain healthy and survive :)

Update: It appears to be red leg. Out of the 5 remaining axolotls in the tub it was in, 2 have red markings on their legs D: They have been isolated from the health(ier) ones. One of the ill axolotls appears to have receding gills, a symptom that the dead one also had. I think that this whole tub of axolotls may be too far gone, I guess I'll just try to prevent cross contamination to the other tubs.
