baby axolotls hatched on the 17th/18th, they hatched a lot sooner than expected, couldn’t feed them straight as my brine shrimp eggs were not hatching. after struggling to get food i finally got some but the babies aren’t eating😕i’ve got 100+ baby axolotls and only seen maybe 5 eat, i have baby brine shrimp and daphnia. i’m getting really worried the axolotls won’t make it🥺i should mention this isn’t my first set of eggs so i do know what i’m doing lol this has just never happened.

water changes every day. water temperature is good. i have them in multiple containers. water is deep enough for them. yes the shrimp are alive. all hatched naturally.

could over grounding be the cause? i’ve lost a bunch of my tubs

It's normal for them to not eat for the first few days. If you look closely (a magnifier helps), you may still be able to see yolk along their bellies. They won't start eating until the yolk is all gone.

What is "over grounding"?

When they are tiny, overcrowding is rarely a problem. Uneaten food is more likely to be the problem. If possible just use the daphnia, since they won't pollute the water as much.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
