I finally have one of my fire salamanders eating nightcrawlers after much effort trying the regular Canadians chopped up or just using the smaller ones whole. I was at walmart today and noticed they had 3 cups of baby nightcrawlers so I brought some home and one salamander has already taken them. The basement is 46F so I think the baby crawlers will be OK down there for a while. I hope they will start taking these regularly because all they've had for a couple of months now are crickets.

I use these when they have them, I bought like 3 cups of them months ago and I still have some left, they last quite awhile, just make sure when buying that you check the cup for fungus before you purchase them, I don't see them too often so I usually get as much as I can.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
