Please help! My 8 year old axolotl recently started refusing food last Wednesday and floating, paralysis in back legs and tail Monday. The spine is deformed from scoliosis shes always had. First assumed she was impacted/constipated and fridged for a day. I was able to get xrays at the to personally look at last Friday from my local vet since they dont have a specialist. Cant see anything wrong and pet was moving legs/tail at time of xray. Pet does have extreme scoliosis that has never caused an issue before. Pet got worse saturday and placed into a fridge container again still worried about chance of constipation, improved slightly Sunday. Tried to return to tank but pet cant swim well or sink so I returned her back to the fridge again sunday. Daily water changes with slow acclimation, water quality looks good. Monday, paralysis in back legs and tail doesnt seem to have feeling in them. Pet is still very “full of life” trying to move on front legs to explore despite paralysis, doesnt seem very lethargic besides lack of appetite. Normally eats every other day. Did accidentally treat axolotl with aloe infused conditioner sunday, changed monday after realizing mistake, other axolotl in a separate tank I treat the same has shown no symptoms from it. I dont have a lot of money but ill do anything I can to save her! Trying to contact a vet but im looking for anyone who has tips or ideas in the meantime.
Thinking of trying methylene blue but she has no signs of fungal infection or ammonia burns. Her gills do look a little smaller than normal too.
