Beautiful kaiseri

Hello everyone,

It's been several months since I got my first kaiseri, and I just wanted to talk about them. They look more beautiful every day. The two I now have seem not to be bounded by nocturnal or diurnal. They may move around a lot during the day (they're doing that as I type this.) Or they may move around at night. I've been keeping a daily log on their behavior.

And getting ready for this breeding season i've been testing larva rearing options. I hatched some wild caught toad eggs in a plastic container, and I left some in that, and moved the other tadpoles to individual cups. I'm pretty sure the plastic container will work better than the cups, though all the tadpoles are doing well. If I get eggs, I want to raise them in a variety of containers and tubs. Almost have the perfect temp pinned too...

Hopefully this spring i'll write about eggs.

Glad to hear you're working for Kaiseri in the US!

I'm from Mass, I have 6 Kaiseri from hopefully varied bloodlines, depending on your location I'd be willing to swap adults for breeding purposes when the time is right.

I've also noticed my Kaiseri really don't seem to have a negative reaction to light, and they aren't really timid at all. They're fairly outgoing actually.

I received my Kaiseri next day from Nevada, I'm sure we'll manage. Let's see if we can even breed them this spring though first With the group I have I don't think I'll have to worry about inbreeding for a few years.

I have two groups of 3, one group is about 6+ months older than the more recent shipment. Their tails are starting to flatten out and develop that sort of dorsal fin. They're developing that kind of tail crest shape and gaining a lot of white coloration on the sides.

Mine have been very easy to please, minus one ecapee during the first set of juvies that arrived which caused me to pull up my floor and rip my entire house apart for weeks. Never did find her =(. Their enclosure is now locked down tighter than Alcatraz. It's unbelievable what these guys can fit themselves through..the one that escaped managed to squeeze through a 2cm gap between the air line and the plastic lid. If you saw the gap you'd figure it an unfathomable task.

Anyway, they don't really fight, they love their heavily planted yet substrateless tank, and they are absolute pigs when it comes to feeding. I feed about every two days but it seems like they could eat themselves into obsesity if I'd let them. They're pretty bold, I wouldn't describe them as timid at all.

Sorry about the escapee. The first newt I got climbed to the top of the aquarium and stayed there for a couple of days...she couldn't get out though. After that I made sure that there were no gaps!

My two newts seem to love each other too. They stay in the same spot with each other a lot. No agression at all.

My female newt has strange eating patterns, she'll go several days without accepting food, and then she eats as much as she can, and repeats.

I'd be happy to swap some newts. I agree, lets see if we can breed them first!:happy:

Your 'female'!? You've seen them in breeding condition already?

Jealous.

I'll find out after wintering this year ;] I'm sure I have a good gender mix, I had a thread about it here at one point.

Yep...when I first got her she had the "volcano."

Yesterday I noticed my possible male's cloaca was swollen. It's larger than it's been at least. I don't know if i'm seeing things or if he has somehow come into condition.
