Hello again, i was just wondering what kind of filter would work best for a sand bottom tank, i used to keep fish and had a sand bottomed tank but the sand grains would get kicked up and drawn into the filter and destroy the impeller over time ( one of the reasons i stopped with fish). Any help would much apreciated, cheers!:D

A canister filter is the easiest IMO, you can mount the intake high enough up the tank that it doesnt suck up the sand so it shouldnt get filled up with substrate.

I have sand in my tank and I have just installed a ZooMed 501 canister filter which looks good. I keep an axolotl so my filter is not very powerful so that I don't get a water flow.

I use a canister filter as well (Rena, to be specific).

Another vote for the Zoomed 501. Just keep the intake at least an inch or so above the sand and you should be fine.
