Big Bubble?! Help

I have an albino axolotl who has been very slow growing but otherwise healthy. She was born probably early January and has gone from live food to earth worms in the last couple of months.

Whilst cleaning out her tank today, we discovered a huge bubble just in front of one of her hind legs. She seems to have a split in her side and the bubble (air or fluid??) is not looking good.

Any advice? Please help.

My husband is wondering whether he accidentally caught her with the syphon pipe. Whilst we don't think this happened if it is a suction injury is it likely to be ok? She seems ok in herself at the moment.

This is probably a medical emergency as based on your description the wall to the body cavity may have ruptured or you may have a prolapse.

What does this mean? Can I treat it in any way or just wait and see?

I would suggest going to a vet but if the vets near you are anything like the ones near me they will just stare at it as if you have brought in a 1 of a kind animal that has never previously been seen.

If it is either one of the conditions I mentioned above will need medical intervention which is why I stated it could be a medical emergency.

Hi folks, Thanks for all the advice. Just thought I'd let you know the outcome rather than disappear.

Having the luck of living down the road from the well known and respected Mark Amey from Amey Zoo http://www.ameyzoo.co.uk, I contacted him. He has assured me it is just like getting a splinter - the skin has caused a blister around a foreign object which has now popped and is healing.
He has suggested that I pop on a couple of drops of 50/50 diluted iodine to ensure there is no infection.
She is feeding well and looking much brighter today.
