I was curious to see how common this birth defect is....so about a little over a year ago wr got two juvies from Zaria one with an obvious birth defect but that's why we took him. We felt bad for the little guy and were prepared that he might have to always live alone in a special habitat to meet his needs. Fast forward to now he is living with his sister in a 29 gallon with no issues with trying to make it to the top or getting around....he just swims a little different but he figured it out and now he is good.
So my question resulted from the fact that my two axies Ickus & Oblina had a clutch (their first together and possibly her first ever) and no relation to Krum(as far as we know) unless Zaria sold eggs to Skilly & hers reproduced resulting in Ickus which is highly unlikely. Anyways so their clutch only 7 developed and one has the same twisted tail birth defect.....is this common? Has anyone else ever owned one or do people just cull them?
I just find it odd that I happen to get not one but two axies with the same birth defect who are unrelated.
*One pic of Krum & one pic of Shane
